    Supercomputer "Emmy" in Göttingen is North Germany's fastest computer

    Top ranking for a supercomputer in Göttingen: In the latest edition of the Top500 list of the world’s fastest computers, the “Emmy” system installed in Göttingen is ranked 47th in the world. In Germany, Emmy ranks fifth, and is thus the most powerful computer in North Germany. Emmy is a system of the North German Supercomputing Alliance (HLRN), which is operated by the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) and the University of Göttingen.

    Göttingen becomes a center for national high performance computing

    Göttingen becomes one of the centers of the newly founded National High Performance Computing Alliance (NHR). This is what the Joint Science Conference (GWK) announced today. Associated with this is funding totaling around 72 million euros over ten years. The application was submitted on behalf of the seven northern German states of the North German Supercomputing Alliance (HLRN) for a joint NHR center of its locations University of Göttingen/GWDG and Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB). Berlin receives an equally high funding.
